the representation of men and women in grimms folklores :cinderella rapuzel and snow white and the seven dwares
This thesis entitles “The Representations of Men and Women in Grimms’
Folklores: Cinderella, Rapunzel and Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs.”
In this thesis, the writer wanted to represent how the representation of men
and women was represented. The men; princes in Cinderella, Rapunzel and Snow
White & the Seven Dwarfs and father in Rapunzel could be represent positive or
negative representations through their stereotypes. Thus, the women; Cinderella,
her stepmother and stepsisters in Cinderella, Rapunzel and the enchantress in
Rapunzel and Snow White and her stepmother in Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs
could be represented positive or negative representations likewise. The men
figures in Cinderella and Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs was represented by
positive representations because they were the savior. Both these folklores showed
that man was the dominant figure and it also strengthens men’s superiority and
women’s inferiority. However, in Rapunzel, the woman’s figure was represented
by positive representations because she was the savior.
It means through folklores which represented man’s power and superiority,
it can also represented woman’s power and superiority. So, folklores which are
used to represent man’s superiority in other side can also be used as tools to
deconstruct that idea by representing woman as the stronger figure than the man.
